In My Head
by Alicia Rades.
Audience/Genre: Young Adult, Short Story, Paranormal.
Publication: September 27th 2015.

Please note: This is a standalone short story of 17,000 words.

Mila Brooks is your seemingly average 16-year-old aside from the fact that she doesn’t have any friends. Her father’s position as chief technology manager at the biggest tech firm in the world, Mahone Inc., has alienated her from her peers. As a beta tester for the latest implant, a computer chip that connects you to The Internet of Things, Mila is sure everyone hates her because of her upgrade. When Mila hears Parker’s voice in her head, everything changes.

I regain consciousness just in time to panic. I can’t see anything, and suddenly every nerve in my body goes into overdrive. My body shakes as I reach out for my father.
“Dad!” I cry. I know he’s there somewhere. My arms flail as I try to find something to ground me to reality.
A moment later, I feel hands clamp around my wrists. “It’s okay,” I hear my father’s voice say.
“Dad!” I say breathlessly. I blink a few times until the room comes back into focus. The glowing computers outline my father’s silhouette.
“Mila,” my father says as he pulls me close to his belly. He seems so tall because he’s standing and I’m still half sitting, half lying on the table. “Mila, you’re fine. What’s all the fuss about? You’ve done this a million times.”
He’s right. I should be fine. This is the twelfth upgrade I’ve had in the past ten years. Never before had I woken with such an odd sensation. What if this time is different?

Best Seller of Entangled Teen Sci-Fi for Free: Obsidian (Lux #1) by Jennifer L Armentrout Kindle Book

Obsidian (Lux #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout.
Audience/Genre: Mature Young Adult, Science Fiction.
Publication: May 8th 2012 by Entangled Teen.

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

"I had so much fun reading this[.]" Christine Riccio, polandbananasbooks

"The romance was HOT AS HELL, I fell hook, line and sinker for Daemon Black and literally swooned at everything that came out of his mouth all the while wishing I could punch his face! I devoured this book in two sittings, as I just needed to see what would happen next." - Cody, Literary-ly Obsessed

"Katy is the kind of snarky female character I like. Who knew aliens could be so hot? What I loved the most-Daemon. What drove me crazy-Daemon. I wanted to reach through the pages and smack him and then kiss him. =)" - Colleen Houck, author of The Tigers Curse Saga and Reawakened

Obsidian Teasers...

1) “Beautiful face. Beautiful body. Horrible attitude. It was the holy trinity of hot boys.”

2) “Why are you such an ass?" The words came out before I could think twice.
"Everyone has to excel at something, right?"
"Well, you're doing a great job.”

3) “I've always found that the most beautiful people, truly beautiful inside and out, are the ones who are quietly unaware of their effect." His eyes searched mine intently, and for a moment we stood there toe to toe. "The ones who throw their beauty around, waste what they have? Their beauty is only passing. It's just a shell hiding nothing but shadows and emptiness.”

4) “You’re such an ass. Has…anyone ever told you that?”
He flashed a genuinely amused smile. “Oh, Kitten, every single day of my blessed life.”

5) “I checked out your blog.'
Oh. Dear. Baby. Jesus. How did he find it? Wait. More importantly was the fact he HAD found it. Was my blog now googleable? That was awesomesauce with an extra heaping of sauce.”

I live outside Washington, D.C. with my wonderfully supportive husband and two daughters, one of which is approaching her teenage years. Help us all! If that isn’t enough, we have a Great Dane and an English Bulldog to keep us on our toes. It’s crazy around here and I love every minute of it!

Writing is my third career. I didn't set out to be a writer, it was just meant to be. My Mechanical Engineering degree from Virginia Tech prepared me well for my first career as an Engineer/Program Manager. My second career was in Human Resources. Long story, but I figured it out. I believe the best start for a writing career is to be a reader first and I’ve been an avid reader my whole life. I've loved to read ever since I picked up my first Nancy Drew mystery in the fourth grade. Now I love reading just about everything, but I don’t read sad books and I don’t watch sad movies either for that matter, no matter how many awards they’ve won. Life’s too short and who needs all that strife to bring us down?

Many of my words have been penned late into the evening, which explains why I’ve never viewed whatever television show you recommend to me. I would, however, love to hear your recommendations for a great read!

Best Seller of Book Blast & Giveaway: Next Door To A Star by Krysten Lindsay Hager Kindle Book

Next Door To A Star
by Krysten Lindsay Hager.
Audience/Genre: Young Adult.
Publication: September 1st 2015 by Limitless Publishing LLC.

Hadley Daniels is tired of feeling invisible.

After Hadley’s best friend moves away and she gets on the bad side of some girls at school, she goes to spend the summer with her grandparents in the Lake Michigan resort town of Grand Haven. Her next door neighbor is none other than teen TV star Simone Hendrickson, who is everything Hadley longs to be—pretty, popular, and famous—and she’s thrilled when Simone treats her like a friend.

Being popular is a lot harder than it looks.

It’s fun and flattering when Simone includes her in her circle, though Hadley is puzzled about why her new friend refuses to discuss her former Hollywood life. Caught up with Simone, Hadley finds herself ignoring her quiet, steadfast friend, Charlotte.

To make things even more complicated, along comes Nick Jenkins…

He’s sweet, good-looking, and Hadley can be herself around him without all the fake drama. However, the mean girls have other ideas and they fill Nick’s head with lies about Hadley, sending him running back to his ex-girlfriend and leaving Hadley heartbroken.

So when her parents decide to relocate to Grand Haven, Hadley hopes things will change when school starts…only to be disappointed once again.

Cliques.

Back-stabbing.

Love gone bad.

Is this really what it’s like to live…

Next Door To A Star?

The school year should end right after spring break, because all anyone can focus on is summer vacation. You can’t learn anything new, because all you can think about is all the fun stuff you’re going to do once you don’t have to get up at the butt crack of dawn. Summer always seems full of possibilities.
Nothing exciting ever happens during the school year, but maybe, during summer vacation, you could run into a hot celebrity and he’d decide to put you in his next music video. Okay, it wasn’t like I knew anybody that happened to, but my grandparents did live next door to a former TV star, Simone Hendrickson, and Simone was discovered in an ice cream parlor one summer. Of course, she lived in L.A. at the time and was already doing plays and commercials, so the guy who discovered her had already seen her perform. But hey, it was summer, she got discovered, and that was all that mattered.
Amazing stuff didn’t happen to me. You know what happened to me last summer? I stepped on a bee and had to go to the emergency room. They’re not going to make an E! True Hollywood Story out of my life. I didn’t go on exotic vacations—like today, I was being dragged along with my parents to my cousin’s graduation party. Most people waited until at least the end of May before having a grad party, but Charisma was having hers early because she was leaving on a trip to Spain. I was dreading this party because I didn’t want to listen to everybody talk about how smart and talented Charisma was—making me feel like a blob in comparison—but my mom RSVP’d even though I said I’d rather die than go. My death threats meant nothing. But still, for some strange reason, I had a feeling this summer was going to be different.

Praise for Next Door to a Star:
From Readers’ Favorite:
Next Door to a Star by Krysten Lindsay Hager is a heart wrenching tale of a young girl growing into her teen years….Hager’s main character is representative of every teenage girl. The author really nailed the reality of a young girl’s early high school years. I think this is a valuable read for girls ages 12-18.
From Kelly Smith Reviews:
Hager wrote from a teen’s perspective, and it gave the book a very authentic feel. She has a real gift for that, something many YA writers lack these days. She reminds me a lot of a modern Ann M. Martin or Judy Blume.
From Author Erin Fanning:
If you, like me, have a soft spot for young adult novels then author Krysten Lindsay Hager should have a place on your bookshelf. Ms. Hager brings the teen years to life with absolute perfection in Next Door to a Star. Handling multiple plotlines with an expert touch, she’s crafted a young adult dramedy that on the top layer is a story about Hadley Daniels, an average teen whose only ambition is to fit in, have a few friends, and find her place in the world.

PIVOT INTERVIEW WITH DREW COLLINS FROM SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN

I am a huge fan of Inside the Actors Studio. My favorite part of James Lipton’s interviews is when he has his guest answer the Pivot Questionnaire. I thought it would be fun to have my MC Drew Collins from my novel SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEEN answer the questionnaire as well. Let’s see what he has to say.

1-What is your favorite word?
Manwhore. It sounds fun.

2-What is your least favorite word?
Pickle. People use it in weird ways, like describing an uncomfortable situation or as an alternative to penis. A pickle is a pickle people. You eat it. Let’s leave it at that. Plus the smell is rank.

3-What turn you on creatively, spiritually, or emotionally?
Determination.

4-What turns you off?
Timidity. Don’t hide. Be who you are and own it.

5-What is your favorite curse word?
Son of a bitch. It just works in so many situations

6-What sound or noise do you love?
My nephew’s laugh. He is the coolest kid ever.

7-What sound or noise do you hate?
The slow beep of a heart monitor.

8-What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Marriage counselor. Maybe, I can help other people from making the mistake I did.

9-What profession would you not like to do?
High school Teacher. Teenagers are assholes. God knows I was.

10-If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
Liquor in the front poker in the back.
