I loved Not Always Happenstance! I enjoyed reading about Hawaii and the culture and learning to soar. It was fun to see Pearl in action since reading of how she became the matchmaker.

Lani has lived with her grandmother for 5 years helping her out with her B&B. She has put her own life on hold, including her boyfriend. He has just asked her to marry him. The ring will come when she moves back to California. She is just hesitant, whether it’s because she doesn’t want to get married or she doesn’t want to leave her grandmother she is not moving forward really. She loves her friends here, the sense of family or ohana. She loves the land. So when Pearl comes to the B&B with her mysterious happenings and then Easton comes and settles into the bungalow that has been collecting dust forever on the property, life changes for Lani. She starts to realize that she wasn’t really living life and wasn’t soaring in love. Now, Easton and Lani find themselves attracted to each other and helping others out and learning about each other and maybe falling in love.


I wasn’t sure how this would end. It wasn’t predictable. I liked that. I loved the depth of the characters. Ahe was fun. Puna is a great grandmother! Easton was full of life and love and he needed someone in his life that would be with him always. I loved how Easton’s job doesn’t really come out until the end and what it could mean to Lani and her friends and the sacrifices Easton makes for her. It’s just a really great book to read and get lost in! I can’t wait for the rest of this series!
