Have you ever wondered what it’s like to make your home in a foreign country? America is a foreign country to millions of immigrants who’ve settled here over the years. The United States is a nation of immigrants, starting with those that arrived tens of thousands of years ago from Europe and Asia. Some were looking for religious freedom, others economic opportunity. And those are still some of the reasons people move here from around the world. The heroine of my story, Elena Striotikos is a first generation Greek American. Her family moved when she was a child and she struggles with her identity. Is she the “exotic” beauty everyone sees, or just a woman who wants nothing more than to feel at home?
Elena has everything she needs. A great job, friends, she’s finally at home in Chicago with the love of her life, Dylan Hayes. She’s pretty sure he’s about to pop THE question, and then they can live happily ever after in an ultramodern Chicago penthouse. All she has to do is meet his mother, and get through thanksgiving weekend in his small town of Bellhaven.
What she doesn’t count on when she gets to Bellhaven--- inexplicably called Hell’s Bells by the towns-people (that’s a story for my book First Comes Marriage)---is that Dylan is a different man. He goes from lawyer Dylan to cowboy Dylan.
For Dylan, coming to Hell’s Bells reminds him of everything he’s missed in Chicago, the feeling of home, a community that takes care of each other, a place where you don’t have to put children on a leash to take them to the park.
Can Dylan and Elena give up their homes for each other?
I wrote this story because for me, thanksgiving is about home. It’s a holiday where we get together with our loved ones and are grateful we have each other.
